What's the modified date & time on your JK.exe after applying JKUP?

Seems like it's not getting applied, that's the only explanation.

Sure enough, it's definately not getting modified!

I'll try disabling the "read only" property of JK.EXE and re-apply the patch. The time stamp CHANGED this time... let's see if it works!

Kurgan, do you have an e-mail?

lol, it shouldn't be read-only if you're trying to modify it. Razz

Does it work, or do I have to mail you? lol

Yep, it works now. Was just checking everything.

It all works perfectly (the only thing is the graphical garbage on the screen, but I'll see if I can sneak the 1.01 patch back in there somehow).

When copying the EXE from the CD I forgot to remove the "read only" thing. That was the problem all along...

Looks all pretty now. There's a split second hiccup the first time you pull out the ST Rifle in a session, and the "sight" on the gun still breaks up a little bit during the firing animation, but that's about it. The skies and even the TD's (which were very dark before) all look great now. If I'm not too busy later, I might try removing the 256 thingy, since it was probably never needed in the first place for me.

Question: Is there an "Unofficial Patch" for MotS? I would love to use this with it, but it'd be annoying to have three weapons, the skies, and my favorite skin messed up for it...

Good you got it working! *makes a note about read only and the patch*

Nope, no mots patch for textures yet.

The ''dusty'' crosshair bug seems to happen with SOME ATI cards.

In fact, ATI in general just doesn't seem to like JK. My Radeon 9550 has major graphical artifacts basically at all times; when you see me a post a screenshot I've ahd to take several and pick the one where no artifacts were visible when it (the screenshot) took. My Radeon X700 has a ''dusty'' crosshair. Radeon Mobility X300 doesn't seem to have any problems. An Nvidia Geforce 3 ti200 and Geforce 4 ti4200 have no problems. My Radeon 9800 Pro doesn't seem to have any problems but I haven't looked closely (and that computer's power supply is dead currently) and I've never tried JK on my Radeon 9600.

Zeq, maybe you could peer around in JK 1.01 and see if the bug fixes they added would be possible to extract and put into the unofficial patch? I wish our community was big enough to have more than one-man armies working on each major thing so there wouldn't be such a request load on said one-man armies... but you know how it is.

You don't understand. WITH the official 1.01 patch, I don't experience the "dustry crosshair." Never have! (not in MotS either)

I've never even seen it before using the latest version of JKE with 1.00 (with or without the "unofficial patch" applied).

I used to have a GeForce2 before this, and before that a Vodoo2, and before that a built in card (can't remember the name of it), and none of them had the dustry crosshair problem.

That'd be nice. Whatever is in 1.01 seems to still make a difference for me, even after all this time, at least where JKE is concerned!

I understood, I just don't consider JK.EXE 1.01 at all when working with JK so all of my experience and comments are in relation to 1.0. I think most of us thought 1.01 was just released to fix a gamepad or joystick bug; I know I did.

True, and I imagine as a result a lot of people never installed it. But it also specifically addressed the Voodoo2 crosshair bug.

I had a voodoo2 based card back before the patch came out (it didn't come out until the game had been out 8 months) and I don't recall ever having any problems with the crosshair back then.

Now we know that LucasArts doesn't always fully explain the fixes in each patch they release, but here's what the text actually says on their website:

Corrects: Address the problem with loss of joystick control during play with some joystick configurations. This update also address a lock-up when enabling the aiming crosshairs, and you are using a 3D Accelerator card that features the Voodoo 2 chipset.

I can see the addon work in MP, but it is kind of messed up. Then in the game there is a lot of HOM effects all over the place and when I use the ST rifle the game slows down and I can't see the ST rifle. My video card is a Voodoo 3 video card. I am also running windows XP proffesional.

A voodoo 3? ouch, that's pretty old. More than likely, it doesn't support textures over 256x256 (this mod has a few.)

Go to the download section, and get the 256_sized.zip file. Put the files in the folder "Jedi Knight/resource/mat" (create it if it isn't there.) That should override most large textures with smaller ones. If it doesn't, you need to download Conman from this site, and use it to open JKE.gob and overwrite the old files.
